Community leaders solve India’s hardest problems.

Community leaders solve India’s hardest problems.

They take many forms: an organiser fighting local corruption; a conservationist planting mangroves to mitigate cyclone risk; or a leader protecting women from gender-based violence.

Community leaders are distinct from traditional NGOs that focus on charity and service delivery. Instead, they build agency, create shared purpose, and deliver practical solutions rooted in local context. They belong to the communities they serve and have a stake in the outcomes they create.

Today’s community leaders are tomorrow’s nation builders.

Today’s community leaders are tomorrow’s nation builders.

But India underinvests in its community leaders.

Being a community leader in India is demanding and often isolating. Most critically, it’s financially unsustainable. Few leaders can secure a steady income, as fundraising is an unnavigable maze of complex requirements.

Consequently despite thousands of Indians possessing the drive to lead, few step forward. And those who do step up face an uphill battle to sustain their work, often relying on enormous personal sacrifice.

The result: Communities aren’t able to prosper. And India misses out on leadership talent that can propel us forward.

This needs to change.

But India underinvests in our community leaders.

Being a community leader in India is hard. It’s lonely: friends and family often discourage it. It’s demanding: success requires a rare mix of skills. But perhaps most importantly, it’s often financially unviable. Few leaders are able to secure a steady income. And fundraising is an unnavigable maze of complex requirements.

So, despite thousands of Indians with the drive and ability to lead, few step forward. And those who do step up face an uphill battle to sustain and grow their work. Many make enormous personal sacrifices just to keep going. Some burn out entirely.

The result: Communities aren’t able to prosper. And India misses out on leadership talent that can propel us forward.

This needs to change.

Solve

Help tackle India’s hardest problems

Veeraa: Built exclusively for India’s community leaders.

We exist to back community leaders - the people closest to the ground, those doing the hardest work with the least support.

We platform these leaders and connect them to civic-minded Indians who want to drive real impact on the ground. By giving monthly funds, they provide leaders with predictable capital to stay in the fight.

Veeraa’s work doesn’t stop at fundraising. Based on demand from leaders, we create opportunities to learn from mentors, connect with peers, and grow their work over time.

Trust through community-backed data

Leaders join the platform through a process rooted in on-ground impact and community trust. Rather than relying on top-down reporting, we continuously gather and analyze community-level data to understand their work and support their growth. Rigorous community data is central to how we identify, back, and strengthen every leader on our platform.

We aim to champion India's most effective community leaders at scale

We have an ambitious goal. In ten years, we want to platform thousands of community leaders, and empower them to meaningfully improve millions of lives.
We dream of an India where communities thrive. And we believe that backing India’s community leaders is critical to get us there. These changemakers are close to the communities they serve and build solutions that sustain and create meaningful impact.
